  • Dr Engela is a fellowship-trained specialist hip replacement surgeon and a founder member of the Constantia Joint Replacement Unit (CJRU) and has been performing total hip replacements since 1993.  He utilizes a minimally invasive surgical technique through a posterior approach.

    Dr Martin is a fellowship trained specialist hip replacement surgeon and a member of the CJRU. He operates through a minimally invasive, muscle-sparing anterior approach.

  • Hip resurfacing is a newer concept in treatment of the arthritic hip.  This is a metal-on-metal implant, which enables the surgeon to do a resurfacing of the hip joint without excising excessive bone. This procedure is suitable for younger patients.

  • Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive keyhole surgical procedure that allows one to place the camera into the hip joint.

  • Revision Hip replacement is the term used for the procedures performed to repair or replace a failed or malfunctioning hip replacement. This is specialized surgery that should only be done by surgeons with experience in Hip replacement surgery.The indications for revision surgery include aseptic loosening, infection, recurrent dislocation, fractures around components, component wear and component failure.
